Over 400 people volunteer with EMCN each year. They contribute over 13,000 hours, and they make a tremendous difference in the lives of newcomers to Canada. You can, too.
Our volunteer activities cover a broad range of areas of service for newcomers to Canada, including English as an Additional Language (EAL), Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC), computer skills training, child daycare, family & parenting, school and college homework club tutoring, resource& services provision, murals, administration, translation and more. This diversity of programs allows us to offer opportunities for the different interests, experiences and skills that those interested in volunteering may have.
We understand that, besides their volunteer activities, volunteers have also commitments of their own which affects their availability. Therefore in our volunteer program we always try out best to fit within your time schedule rather than the other way round.
Before starting, EMCN volunteers are required to complete a police security clearance, and in some cases a Child Welfare Information System check.
Normally, volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Those under 18 may volunteer, provided that a parent/legal guardian signs for all documents pertaining to the volunteer activities. The volunteer services officer may approve youth volunteers for activities where children and parents work together as volunteers or a school program.
EMCN provides support and ongoing training for volunteers.
