Recognizing Immigrant Success in Edmonton
Since 1981 the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers has been supporting immigrants and refugees to Edmonton by providing programs, services to assist them in successfully settling in Edmonton and region. Each group of newcomers faces a changing job market, changing housing market, and a lack of understanding of the types of barriers that they confront.
Through the annual RISE awards, the EMCN celebrates immigrants who have broken down the barriers and have achieved success. These awards also acknowledge the individuals and groups who support them. Whether they are a couple who fled their homeland and found the support and encouragement to start a community program to help other immigrant families settling in Edmonton, or an agency that helps families interpret, for example, Canadian rights, responsibilities and values, these people are acknowledged for their contributions in making our city the best place to live.
The Gala will include award presentations in 8 categories and a collage of intercultural entertainment including energetic and compelling performances by the Chameleon Dance Ensemble; El Coro de Guadalupe choir, Multicultural Drum Circle, and Multilinguistic singer/ songwriters, Frank Bessai and Chris Smith, New Youth Edmonton, and much more!
Everyone who loves diversity and inclusion in our city should join us for this truly wonderful evening.
For information regarding this event please contact Katrina Paufler at 780-424-7709.
Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to support the continuation of existing programs and future research and program development.
